Unit Website Templates and Standards

Below are links to templates that units in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences are encouraged to use for their websites. When these templates are not used, the website standards listed are recommended when developing unit websites.

Unit Website Templates

Listed are templates for two navigation orientations--horizontal and vertical--in two approved color schemes. The README.pdf file provides instructions for using the templates in Dreamweaver.

Unit Website Standards

  1. Include approved university logos/banners in website design.
  2. Provide information
    1. about research, teaching, and extension programs.
    2. for prospective and current students.
    3. about faculty and staff.
    4. about current events and news (newsletters, etc.)
  3. Include contact information (e-mail, phone, fax, mailing address, and mail code) on the home page or a link to contact information.
  4. Provide a link to the College calendar on the home page.
  5. Provide links to Virginia Tech and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences websites on the home page. Links to Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station and Virginia Cooperative Extension are recommended.
  6. Follow mandated university policies and rules, and state and federal laws concerning appropriate use of computers also see policies.vt.edu.
    1. Included a privacy statement on the home page. The Privacy Statement Generator can be used to generate the statement also see the Policy on Privacy Statements on Virginia Tech Websites.
    2. Include a link to the University's Equal Opportunity website on the home page.
