Mission
The AHNR-IT mission is:
- To provide solutions that address prioritized information technology needs of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Virginia Cooperative Extension, the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station and the College of Natural Resources.
- To provide strategic leadership for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in information technology and distance education.
- To enable faculty and staff to be more productive by using the latest technology in their work.
Clientele
Our clients are located at 107 VCE city/county offices, six 4-H Centers, 13 Agricultural Research and Extension Centers, and the campuses of Virginia Tech and Virginia State University.
Organization
AHNR-IT is one of several departments in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech. AHNR-IT is comprised of over 20 personnel in fields ranging from graphic design and distance education to computer programming and network administration.
History
AHNR-IT began as two separate departments: Extension Information Systems (EIS), started in the 1970's, and the Microcomputer Teaching Lab (MTL), started in the 1980's. In 1995, these departments merged to form Agriculture and Natural Resource Information Systems (AgNIS). In 1999, AgNIS was renamed as Agriculture, Human and Natural Resources Information Technology or AHNR-IT.
