    HP 1055CM Poster Printer

Poster Requests

Poster printing is available through the Extension Distribution Center for College faculty, staff, and students. You can submit your file to print in person (on a CD or a flash drive) or by e-mail. However, please note that posters will not be made while you wait.

Posters can be picked up from the Distribution Center or delivered to your department via campus mail.

Price

Complete pricing information is provided on the EDC Work Order Form (Excel file, .xls).

Payment

Accepted forms of payment are HokieMart, ISRs, cash, check, VISA and MasterCard.

Supported File Formats

  • Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx)
  • Microsoft Publisher (.pub)
  • Adobe Acrobat (.pdf)
  • Adobe Photoshop (.jpg or .tiff)

Image Formatting

Image resolutions should be 150 to 300 dots per inch (dpi). Resolutions lower than 150 dpi will result in grainy, poor-quality posters. Beware of images copied from a website! Resolutions higher than 300 dpi may result in longer printing times and/or distortion and errors during printing.

Design

To make sure that none of your design is cut off during printing, leave a 1" margin between the edge of any text and/or images and the edge of the paper. In addition, avoid using large, complex backgrounds which could result in longer printing times or errors.

Poster Dimensions

There are three types of paper available for your poster: regular and photo. Available widths:

  • Regular: 24", 36", 42"
  • Photo: 24", 36", 42"

The maximum length is limited by the length of a roll of paper (100').  However, the maximum length is 56" if you have a PowerPoint file.

NOTE:  Since the width of the paper is always fixed, the number of running feet on the order form refers to the dimension that is equal to or longer than the available widths. For example, for a 36"x36" poster, the running feet is 3.  For a 36"x42" poster, the running feet is still 3.   Fractions of a foot are rounded up.

Handling

Please note that posters are neither waterproof nor light stable. To protect your posters, you may want to purchase a poster tube or take advantage of laminating services.
