How to use TrueCrypt with your Flash Drive

TrueCrypt can be used to encrypt data stored on a flash drive.  On option is to create a Traveler Disk.  The advantages of this method is that it encrypts the entire drive, however the drive can only be used in systems that already have TrueCrypt installed.  Instructions for creating a Traveler Disk can be found at http://www.truecrypt.org. Another method is to simply create a standard encrypted volume, and copy that file to your flash drive.  This method will you to store the TrueCrypt application on the drive and allow you to run it from any computer.

To do this:

1. Follow these instructions to install the portable version of TrueCrypt:
    a. How to Install TrueCrypt (Windows)
    b. How to Install TrueCrypt (OS X)

2. Once installed, then follow these instructions to create the encrypted volume:

3.  Make sure that the size of the encrypted volume is less than the size of your flash drive.

4. Copy the volume to the flash drive.

5. Follow these instructions to use the volume on the flash drive:
